Mulieris Dignitatem (On the Dignity and Vocation of Women) - This apostolic letter is a great compliment to the Letter to Women. This letter was written in the Marian Year of 1988 in preparation for the Jubliee Year in 2000. A Jubilee Year is a year "when all things are made new," which represents the birth of Christ. In that context and in anticipation of the symbolic Jubilee Year of 2000, the Pope is "imagining" that Mary would have been born in 1988 and Christ would have been born in the year 2000.

This document is written in the form of a meditation. In a meditation, we ponder the truths of the faith and the role faith plays in our own lives. In Mulieris Dignitatem, John Paul II meditates on the anthropology of man and woman, God's intention for their relationship, and the result of original sin. He also explores the relationship that Jesus had with women and the reason for the all-male priesthood.

Bill Beckman served the Archdiocese of Denver from July 1991 to May 2003 in various roles, including director of evangelization and catechesis, theological adviser to the archbishop, ecumenical officer, and member of the adjunct faculty of St. John Vianney Theological Seminary. He still serves as Censor Librorum and ad hoc adviser to Archbishop Charles Chaput.

An attorney and mediator, Bill now works with his wife Martha and their children as a missionary catechist of the Neocatechumenal Way in the dioceses of Minnesota and Wisconsin.
