Our Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI, has appointed Helen Alvare, an ENDOW Advisory board member and law professor at the Catholic University of America, as a consultor for the Pontifical Council for the Laity. To read the Zenit article, click here.
As well, Helen will be chairing a special conference, to be held in Washington, DC. Hosted by Ave Maria School of Law and Columbus School of Law of the Catholic University of America, the conference seeks to celebrate Pope John Paul II's 1988 Apostolic Letter Mulieris Dignitatem from October 3-4, 2008. The conference will be organized as an interdisciplinary study. Scholars from disciplines of philosophy, theology, law, economics, and sociology will examine how principles articulated in Mulieris Dignitatem are relevant for issues raised in contemporary society. The panel topics will be drawn from the chapters of Mulieris Dignitatem in logical sequence. They will range from the nature and significance of the feminine vocation, the meaning of equality, societal attempts to redress the disorder between men and women, the importance of the dual dimensions of motherhood-virginity, and the relevance of the Church-Bride Mystery.
